St. Scholastica holds off 3rd-period Augsburg comeback with 3-2 decision.

MINNEAPOLIS (11/10/07) -- Scoring a goal in each period, the College of St. Scholastica built a 3-0 lead, then held off a furious third-period rally by host Augsburg College in a 3-2 nonconference men's hockey victory on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

A.J. Tucker (JR, Fort Frances, Ontario) had a goal and an assist for St. Scholastica (2-2-1 overall), with Kyle Luschinski (JR, Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Jameson Lundquist (SO, Superior, Wis.) adding goals.

Colin Briscoe (FY, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) and Cory Ellertson (FY, Albert Lea, Minn.) scored goals 45 seconds apart midway through the third period for Augsburg (0-3-1 overall).

After St. Scholastica claimed a 26-13 advantage in shots-on-goal through the first two periods, the Auggies staged a strong comeback, with an 11-5 shots advantage in the final stanza. Briscoe scored his first collegiate goal from Tim Lawson (SR, Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer HS) at the 8:22 mark, and Ellertson scored from Kurt Hogard (JR, Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius HS) and Ben Roberts (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) at the 9:07 mark.

Andrew Kent (JR, Lakeville, Minn.) collected 28 saves in goal for Augsburg, while Tyler Johnson (SR, East Grand Forks, Minn.) picked up the win for the Saints with 22 saves in net.

The Saints opened the scoring at the 18:29 mark of the first period, as Luchinski scored from Tucker and Trevor Geiger (JR, Salmon Arm, British Columbia). The Saints scored at the 13:45 mark of the second period, with a power-play goal by Tucker from Joey Martini (Jr., Calgary, Alberta) and Geiger, and the Saints built a 3-0 lead with a Lundquist goal, from Simren Sandhu (FY, Calgary, Alberta) and Jordan Baird (SO, Port McNeill, British Columbia), at the 4:05 mark of the third frame.

Both teams open up play in their respective conferences next weekend. Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a series against St. Olaf, with Friday's (11/16) game at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena and Saturday's (11/17) game at 7 p.m. in Northfield, Minn. St. Scholastica opens Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play on Friday at 7:05 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-River Falls.
