St. Olaf tops Augsburg 6-3 in MIAC opener.

MINNEAPOLIS (11/16/07) -- Kari McClintick scored a goal and added two assists for a three-point night, leading St. Olaf College to a 6-3 victory over visiting Augsburg College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey opener for both teams on Friday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.

Kayla Hill, Kim McClintick, Tessa Christensen and Katie Bennett had a goal and assist each for the Oles, now 1-2-0 overall.

Jackie Keller * (SR, Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS) had a goal and assist, and Tiffany Magnuson (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) and Erin Leyden (FY, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) scored goals for Augsburg, now 0-4-0 overall.

The teams complete the MIAC-opening series on Saturday (11/17) at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena. St. Olaf scored twice in each period and claimed a 34-21 advantage in shots-on-goal.

St. Olaf opened the scoring with two goals in a 56-second span early in the game, as Gurtcheff scored from Heidi Morse at the 2:41 mark, and Hill scored from Bennett and Laura Wild at the 3:37 mark.

The Auggies scored twice in a 1:09 span early in the second period to tie the game, with Magnuson scoring from Keller at the 3:51 mark and Leyden scored from Andrea Toft (SO, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) at the 5:00 mark. But St. Olaf took the lead for good with two goals in succession -- Bennett's goal from Hill and Wild at the 8:02 mark and a Kim McClintick power-play goal from Kari McClintick and Janae Fabini at the 13:43 mark.

Augsburg again cut into the lead early in the third period, as Keller scored a power-play goal from Emily Merhar (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) at the 5:06 mark. St. Olaf scored twice more to clinch the victory, with Kari McClintick scoring on the power-play goal from Christensen and Anna Messerly at the 11:15 mark, and Christensen scoring from Kari McClintick and Kim McClintick with 31 seconds left to play.

Erin McNamara picked up the win in goal for the Oles, with 18 saves. Toni Menth (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) took the loss for the Auggies, with 28 saves.
