Augsburg has 2nd-period rally, but falls to St. Olaf 4-1.

MINNEAPOLIS (11/17/07) -- Kayla Hill (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) had a goal and assist, leading St. Olaf College to a 4-1 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Janae Fabini (SR, Duluth, Minn./Warroad HS), Katie Iraci (FY, Park Ridge, Ill./Loyola HS) and Katie Bennett (SR, Edina, Minn.) also scored goals for the Oles, who improved to 2-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 in MIAC play with the win, completing the weekend sweep.

Jess Olson (SO, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) scored her first goal of the season for Augsburg, now 0-5-0 overall, 0-2-0 in MIAC play. Olson opened the scoring with a goal from Emily Merhar (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Elise Hedlund (FY, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) at the 4:40 mark of the first period.

St. Olaf grabbed the lead back with two goals in a 2:25 span midway through the first period. Fabini scored from Cassie Forster (FY, Shakopee, Minn.) and Kim McClintick (SO, Chaska, Minn.) at the 9:32 mark, and Hill scored a power-play goal from Meghan Stumpf (FY, Oakdale, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) at the 11:57 mark.

After being outshot by a 17-6 mark in the first period, Augsburg took the momentum in the second period, outshooting the Oles by a 20-12 margin. But St. Olaf goalkeeper Erin McNamara (FY, Farmington, Minn.) stopped all 20 shots she faced in the period, en route to a 34-save effort.

The Oles clinched the win with two goals in the third period. Iraci scored from Stumpf at the 7:30 mark, and Bennett scored from Hill and Laura Wild (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) at the 14:37 mark.

St. Olaf outshot Augsburg by a 41-35 margin. Toni Menth (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) took the loss for the Auggies, with 37 saves.

Augsburg returns to action with a nonconference game on Tuesday (11/20) at 7:05 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the Augsburg Ice Arena. St. Olaf is idle until Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m., when the Oles travel to St. Benedict.
