ROSEVILLE, Minn. (11/20/07) -- Mike Anderstrom led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Daniel Hanson had 19 points and nine rebounds, leading host Northwestern College-Roseville to a 77-62 win over Augsburg College in a nonconference men's basketball game on Tuesday night at the Ericksen Center.
Femi Solaja (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./St. Paul Harding HS) and Jon Cassens (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) scored 19 points apiece for Augsburg (0-3 overall), with Solaja adding seven rebounds and Cassens adding seven assists. Nate Alm (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) led all players with 14 rebounds, adding two blocks and eight points.
Northwestern jumped out to a 21-11 lead in the first 6:20 of play, and held a lead of eight points or more for the entire first half. The Eagles led 43-33 at halftime. Augsburg used a 9-3 run to cut the lead to five points, 57-52 with 9:26 left to play, but the Eagles pulled away again, and their 15-point final advantage was their largest lead of the game.
Dave Zuleger scored 11 points with five assists for Northwestern, while Josh Strelecki had nine points, four assists and three steals.
Jonathan Gholson (SR, Gary, Ind./William A. Wirt HS) scored six points for Augsburg, while Darren Nelson * (JR, Richfield, Minn.) scored five points.
Augsburg was hampered by a cold outside shooting night, as it hit just 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from three-point range. Augsburg outrebounded Northwestern by a 31-28 margin, but committed 18 turnovers, which the Eagles converted into 23 points.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Wednesday (11/28) at 7:45 p.m., hosting Carleton at Si Melby Hall.
