Augsburg gets first win of season, 4-1 over Bethel!

MINNEAPOLIS (12/1/07) -- Katie Medd (SR, Mankato, Minn./East HS) had a goal and an assist, and goalie Toni Menth (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) stopped 32 of the 33 shots she faced in goal, leading Augsburg College to a 4-1 victory over visiting Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Jackie Keller * (SR, Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West HS), Whitney Restemayer (SO, Bemidji, Minn.) and Katie Johnson (SR, Montrose, Minn./Wayzata HS) also scored goals, and Tiffany Magnuson (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) recorded two assists for Augsburg (1-7-0 overall, 1-3-0 MIAC).

Whitney Ischi (FY, Kenai, Alaska) scored her first collegiate goal on an unassisted tally for Bethel (3-3-1 overall, 2-2-0 MIAC). Beth Spurrier (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had 32 saves in net for the Royals.

Augsburg, which outshot Bethel by a 36-33 margin, went 3-for-4 on the power play, matching the number of power-play goals it had in the seven games preceeding Saturday's contest.

Keller scored on the power play from Magnuson 44 seconds into the second period, followed by Medd's power-play marker from Magnuson and Jess Olson (SO, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) at the 13:01 mark. Restemayer scored an unassisted goal on the power play at the 5:12 mark of the third frame.

Ischi scored an unassisted goal on the power play at the 13:18 mark of the third period for the Royals, but Johnson capped the scoring with her first goal of the season, assisted by Medd, at the 14:45 mark.

Both teams have MIAC series next weekend (Friday-Saturday 12/7-8), as Augsburg faces St. Thomas and Bethel faces St. Benedict.
