SCHOFIELD, Wis. (12/29/07) -- Dan Carlson (SR, Roseville, Minn.) and Dan Leopold (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored goals on consecutive power plays in the third period, rallying Augsburg College to a 3-3, overtime tie with Finlandia University in a nonconference, neutral-site men's hockey game Saturday night at the Greenheck Field House.

Augsburg (0-10-2 overall) took an early lead on Joel Sauer's (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) first collegiate goal, from Jim Jensen (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) and Leopold, at the 5:38 mark of the first period.

But Finlandia (7-3-2 overall) scored three goals in the second period to take the lead. Corey Blake (JR, Marquette, Mich.) had two goals and an assist in the third period for the Lions, while Keith Johnstone (JR, Marquette, Mich.) scored a goal, assisting on the other two markers. Mike Parks (SR, Marquette, Mich.) assisted on all three goals for the Lions.

Augsburg rallied back with two power-play goals in a 2:27 span midway through the final frame. Carlson scored from Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) at the 11:23 mark, and Leopold scored from Brett Way (JR, Grand Ledge, Mich.) and Johnson at the 13:50 mark.

Finlandia had a chance to score the game-winning goal in the final minute, but a potential goal was disallowed in the final minute of regulation. Augsburg outshot Finlandia by a 5-3 margin in the overtime session, but neither team could score.

Finlandia outshot Augsburg by a 36-33 margin. Andrew Kent (JR, Lakeville, Minn.) collected 33 saves for Augsburg, while Lukas Alberer (SR, Poertschach, Austria) claimed 30 saves for the Lions.

Augsburg returns to action on Thursday (1/3) at 7:05 p.m. with an exhibition game against the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Finlandia hosts Wisconsin-Superior in a nonconference game on Sunday (1/6) at 6 p.m. in Hancock, Mich.
