NORTHFIELD, Minn. (12/5/07) -- Elyse Erickson scored 14 points with four steals and six rebounds, and Jamie Erdahl scored 10 points with seven assists and seven rebounds, as St. Olaf College hung on for a 45-37 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at the Skoglund Center.
Christa Suedbeck (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) claimed her fifth double-double in Augsburg's (4-3 overall, 2-2 MIAC) seven games this season, with 10 points and a season-high 17 rebounds. She also had six blocked shots. Kristina Lurken * (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) scored seven points with five reobunds and four assists, and Katie LaGrave * (SR, Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) scored five points.
St. Olaf (2-4 overall, 1-2 MIAC) received five points, 12 rebounds and two steals from Kristina Stoermer, and Danielle Stoermer had six points and seven rebounds.
St. Olaf, which led from start to finish, took a 25-13 lead into halftime, as the Auggies connected on just 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) from the field. St. Olaf hit 11-of-32 (34.4 percent) from the field in the first half. St. Olaf outrebounded Augsburg by a 50-40 margin.
Augsburg used a 14-4 run to cut the Ole advantage to its closest, 32-31 with 6:59 left in the second half. Lurken had five points in the Auggie run, while LaGrave scored all five of her points in the run. But St. Olaf outscored Augsburg 13-6 down the stretch to clinch the win.
Augsburg is now off for the holiday break, and returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m., with a conference game at Hamline. St. Olaf has a conference game against St. Thomas this Saturday (12/8) at 1 p.m. in Northfield.
