MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (12/8/07) -- Rob Johnson, Nate Ryan and Ryan Hoehn each scored two goals as the host University of St. Thomas (9-1-1 overall, 4-0-0 MIAC) ran their men's hockey unbeaten streak to eight with a win over visiting Augsburg College (0-9-1 overall, 0-6-0 MIAC) in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday night at the UST/STA Arena.
Jake Pernula (FY, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) scored the lone goal of the game for Augsburg, a tally from Kellen Chamblee (JR, Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville HS) late in the second period.
The seventh-ranked Toms, who outshot Augsburg 51-20, built a 4-0 lead and took a 4-1 lead into the final period. They capped off the weekend sweep with four goals scored in a 1:25 span midway through the third period. Adam Davis and Alex Coles also had goals, and Nick Pernula and Andrew Panchenko each scored three assists. Tyler Chestnut stopped 18 of 19 shots in 51:17 in goal.
Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) and Jim Jensen (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) had four shots apiece for Augsburg, while Brett Way (JR, Grand Ledge, Mich.) had three shots.
Andrew Kent (JR, Lakeville, Minn.) started in goal for Augsburg and collected 37 saves, before being relieved by Michael Henrichsen (SR, Bothell, Wash.), who had six saves in eight minutes of work.
The Tommies, 7-0-1 in their last eight games, have allowed just three goals in their last four games. They are off until Jan. 5.
Augsburg returns to action on Dec. 28-29, with games against Finlandia (Mich.) at Schofield, Wis.
