Augsburg closes season with 3-3, overtime tie at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/24/07) -- Tiffany Magnuson (So., Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) scored two goals as part of a three-goal Augsburg College outburst in the third period, as the Auggies rallied from a 3-0 deficit to claim a 3-3, overtime tie with Hamline University ina Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday night at the Drake Ice Arena.

Katie Johnson (Jr., Montrose, Minn./Wayzata HS) scored for the Auggies at the 1:24 mark of the third period, and Magnuson added goals at the 8:38 mark and 16:07 mark of the third frame to tie the game.

With the tie, Augsburg finishes the season at 8-12-5 overall, 5-9-4 in MIAC play. Hamline, which clinched the No. 4 seed in the MIAC postseason playoffs, is now 14-8-3 overall, 10-6-2 in MIAC play. Hamline will host No. 5-seed St. Mary's in the MIAC playoff play-in game on Tuesday (2/27) at 7:15 p.m.

Hamline scored all three of its goals on the power play, as Kate Raasch scored in the first period, and Sophie Davidson and Emily Dusold scored in the second period. As a team, Hamline was 3-for-9 on the power play, while Augsburg was 0-for-8.

Andrea Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Sara Toft (Fr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) assisted on Johnson's goal, while Whitney Restemayer (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) assisted on Magnuson's first goal and Caryn Quist (So., St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS) assisted on Magnuson's second goal.

Magnuson finished the season with 23 goals, a total that leads the MIAC in overall statistics and is currently second-most among NCAA Division III players nationally. Her 17 goals in conference play were also the most among all MIAC players. Her 30 points this season are currently tied for fifth-best among MIAC players overall.

After two seasons at Augsburg (50 games), Magnuson has 44 career goals, already the third-most in school history, behind the 68 of Angie Rieger (1997-2001) and 55 of Lauren Chezick (2001-05). Her 23 goals this season is tied for third-most in a single-season in school history; the record is 27 goals, set by Rieger in the 1999-2000 season.

Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 35-20 margin. Toni Menth (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) made collected 32 saves for the Auggies, while Andria Pinkerton had 17 saves for Hamline.
