ST. CLOUD, Minn. (2/3/07) --
Critter Nagurski * (Sr., International Falls, Minn.) claimed his second collegiate hat trick with a three-goal, one-assist performance, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 5-2 victory over host St. John's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center.
Aaron Johnson * (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) added there assists, and
Thomas Erickson (Sr., Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had a goal and an assist for the Auggies, who improved to 7-8-4 overall, 4-2-4 in MIAC play with the win, completing the weekend sweep of the Johnnies. It was Augsburg's first series sweep of St. John's since the 1998-99 season.
A.J. Hau (Fr., Fort Collins, Colo.) had the other Auggie goal.
Jason Weigel and Pat Connelly scored goals for St. John's, now 7-13-1 overall, 4-8-0 in MIAC play. Connelly added an assist, and Justin Wild had two assists for the Johnnies.
Nagurski scored a goal in each period, scoring from
Chris Johnson (Fr., Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) in the first frame, from
Aaron Johnson * and
Danny Carlson (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) in the second period, and from
Aaron Johnson * in the third period.
Hau scored from
Aaron Johnson * and Nagurski in the second period, and Erickson scored from
Patrick Fogerty (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) and
Tim Lawson (Jr., Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer HS) in the second period.
Andy Kent (So., Lakeville, Minn.) collected 20 saves for the victory in goal for Augsburg, as the Auggies outshot the Johnnies by a 35-22 margin. Vince Wheeler collected 16 saves in the start for St. John's, before being relieved by Andy Cook, who made 14 saves.
Augsburg faces Gustavus in a series next weekend, while St. John's is idle next weekend and returns to action with a series against Gustavus Feb. 16-17.
