MINNEAPOLIS (2/3/07) -- Danielle Johnson (Fr., DeForest, Wis./Edgewood HS) collected a double-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds and six steals, leading Macalester College to an 80-76, double-overtime victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball contest Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (1-19 overall, 1-16 MIAC) rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to tie the game and force overtime. Trailing by 10 points, 52-42, with 1:26 left in regulation, the Auggies outscored the Scots 12-2 to tie the game and force overtime at 54-54.

Brietta Schluender (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) connected on a three-point play with 1:18 left, Michelle Richter (So., Chaska, Minn.) connected on two free throws, and Kristina Lurken * (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) hit two jumpers. Trailing 54-51, Katie LaGrave * (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) hit a long three-pointer with one second left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.

Schluender led the Auggies with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Richter had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. LaGrave had 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Lurken had 10 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Megan Krumrie (So., Elk Mound, Wis.) scored 10 points with five assists and four rebounds.

Elise Pagel (So., Appleton, Wis./North HS) had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Lara Avery (Fr., Topeka, Kan.) had 14 points and six rebounds for Macalester (7-13 overall, 4-12 MIAC). Trina PaStarr (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) scored eight points with nine rebounds and four steals.

Augsburg took its first lead of the game on a Krumrie jumper with 4:14 left in the first overtime. Macalester eventually built a three-point lead with 23 seconds left, but LaGrave connected on a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 67-67 and force a second overtime.

In the second OT, Macalester clinched the win at the free-throw line. Four Augsburg players fouled out in the game, including two in the second overtime. Macalester connected on 9-of-12 free throws in the final five minutes of play, outscoring Augsburg 13-9 in the session.

Macalester had 40 free-throw attempts in the game, connecting on 26, while Augsburg had 14 free-throw attempts, hitting 12.

Both teams return to action on Monday (2/5), with Augsburg hosting St. Thomas at 7:45 p.m. Macalester has a 7:30 p.m. game at St. Benedict.
