COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (8/31/07) -- Trevor Cobb scored two first-half goals, leading Colorado College to a season-opening 3-0 win over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's soccer game on Friday afternoon at Colorado College's Stewart Field.

Colorado College outshot Augsburg by a 18-9 margin, including a 14-1 advantage in the first half, as the Tigers scored all three of their goals in the first 30 minutes of play. It was the first game of the season for both teams. Cobb scored his first goal in the 8th minute, followed by a goal in the 13th minute by Jordan Reese. Cobb closed the scoring with a goal in the 30th minute. Augsburg outshot Colorado College by an 8-4 margin in the second half.

"This was clearly not the way we wanted to get the 2007 campaign started," said Augsburg head coach Greg Holker. "For the first five minutes, we felt CC wasn't going to have much of the ball -- and then we broke down in the back and gave away an easy one. Then it happened again. One of our trademarks as a program is our ability to defend, as well as our committment to hard work and to each other. On the day, we certainly weren't ourselves."

Pascaul Venter (Jr., Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) made two saves in goal in the first half for the Auggies, while Matt Carlson (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) had two saves in the second half. Dave Khuen collected three saves for Colorado College in a complete-game effort.

"To our guys credit, we made some changes at halftime and created a challenge for CC, and probably should have been rewarded with at least one tally," Holker said. "We did receive some strong individual perfromances from a few players: Matt Bowman (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) was our best player today, and Kelsey Duerr (So., Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) provided the effort and skill that we were missing in the early stages of the match. Andrew Seidel (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Nick Anderson (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) worked hard throughout the match, and Josh Stepaniak (So., Woodbury, Minn.) had a strong performance."

Augsburg closes its season-opening trip to Colorado on Saturday (9/1) with a 1 p.m. game against the University of Texas-Dallas at Stewart Field.

"I know our guys are looking forward to erasing that memory quickly in our match with UT-Dallas," Holker said. "I would suspect our back four and goalkeeper will correct some of the issues we had today in a match against another strong opponent."
