ROSEVILLE, Minn. (8/31/07) -- Kelsey Watsabaugh (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Hopkins HS) scored two goals and added an assist, leading Augsburg College in a 6-0 season-opening victory over Northwestern College-Roseville in a nonconference women's soccer game on Friday afternoon at Northwestern's Reynolds Field.

Five different Auggies scored goals and every player who dressed saw game action, as the Auggies outshot the Eagles by a 49-1 margin. The Eagles' lone shot did not come until the final minute of play, as Augsburg dominated possession throughout the contest.

"As I told the team, this game was a great reward for a solid pre-season. The majority of our team came in fit, and everyone has been working hard and supporting each other," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "I was very impressed with the quality of our finishing today and very proud of the fact that each player played well."

Lacey Hoover (Fr., Duluth, Minn./Central HS) scored a goal and added an assist, and Becky Solheim (So., Waconia, Minn.) had two assists.

Augsburg scored three goals in the first 24 minutes -- Hoover's goal in the 15th minute from Angie Neuhaus (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), Watsabaugh's first goal from Noreen Hogan (Sr., Moline, Ill./Alleman HS) in the 23rd minute, and Whitney Holman's (So., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) goal in the 24th minute from Watsabaugh. Kelly Schreiber (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.) put the Auggies ahead 4-0 with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute.

The Auggies scored twice in the first 11 minutes of the second half. Watsabaugh scored her second goal of the game just 47 seconds into the period, from Hoover and Solheim. Jackie Keller * (Sr., Traverse City, Minn./Traverse City West HS) capped the scoring with a goal from Solheim and Felicia Faison (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) in the 56th minute.

Maggie DeGroot * (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) and Jenny Kieffaber (Fr., Lakeville, Minn./Burnsville, Minn.) combined for the victory in goal. Kieffaber had the lone save of the game for the Auggies. Karen Kruse collected 21 saves for Northwestern.

Augsburg has its home opener on Saturday (9/1) with a 7 p.m. game at Edor Nelson Field against Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the No. 15-ranked team in the National Soccer Coaches Association Division III preseason national poll and the No. 10-ranked team in the D3Kicks.com preseason national poll.

"Now we direct our attention to tomorrow night as we host one of the best teams in the country, UW-Eau Claire," Navarre said. "Our players love playing nationally ranked teams and are excited for the challenge."
