MINNEAPOLIS (9/1/07) -- Outshooting host Augsburg College by a 26-6 margin, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire claimed a 3-0 victory over the Auggies in a nonconference women's soccer game Saturday evening at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Jessica Millard (Jr., Madison, Wis./LaFollette HS) and Liz Kooistra (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) scored their second goals in as many games for the Blugolds (2-0-0 overall), while Allison Smith (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored a goal on a free kick in the second half.

Maggie DeGroot * (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) collected nine saves in goal for Augsburg (1-1-0 overall). Both teams were playing their second games in a two-day span.

"Obviously when you play one of the best teams in the nation, you have to limit your mistakes," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "Unfortunately, we made a few critical mistakes and Eau Claire was able to capitalize. Nevertheless we can take some positives from this game and move forward."

Katie Medd (Jr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) had two shots for Augsburg, while Felicia Faison (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), Kelsey Watsabaugh (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn./Hopkins HS), Angie Neuhaus (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) and Whitney Holman (So., New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) each had a shot in the contest.

Millard scored on a header in front of the goal off a corner kick in the 22nd minute, with Sam Krueger (So., Elkhorn, Wis.) getting the assist. Five minutes later, Kooistra scored on a one-timer in front of the goal from Haelee Maurer (Fr., Appleton, Wis.). Smith scored on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 60th minute. Allie Rivard (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had four saves in goal for the Blugolds.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire entered the game as the No. 15-ranked team in the National Soccer Coaches Association Division III preseason national poll and the No. 10-ranked team in the D3Kicks.com preseason national poll.

Both teams return to action next Friday (9/7), with Augsburg playing at Pacific Washington University (Wash.) at 1:30 p.m., and Wisconsin-Eau Claire playing at Concordia-Moorhead at 5 p.m. Augsburg plays at the University of Puget Sound (Wash.) next Sunday (9/9) at 10 a.m.

"We are excited to travel to Seattle; Pacific Lutheran will be a tough test and Puget Sound is nationally ranked," Navarre said. "The team understands that we play the best teams in the nation in order to be more prepared for our conference season."
