ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (9/21/07) -- With four players in double-figures in kills, the host College of St. Benedict scored a three-game victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match on Friday night at Claire Lynch Hall. Game scores were 30-18, 30-25, 30-25.
Augsburg (7-9 overall, 0-3 MIAC) was paced by Breann Woelfel (So., Annandale, Minn.), who had eight kills and six digs. Kristina Lurken (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) claimed seven kills, and Julie Jenkins (Jr., Edina, Minn.) and Laura Harms (Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) had five kills apiece, with Harms adding two blocks and Jenkins adding 11 assists and nine digs.
St. Benedict (9-4 overall, 2-1 MIAC) was led by Calleigh Brown, Laura Heggernes and Kayli Schumacher, who had 12 kills each. Brown added four blocks, while Heggerness and Schumacher had three blocks each. Emma Jaynes had 11 kills, 17 digs and three blocks (one solo).
Shanna Reed (So., Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had 10 assists for Augsburg, Haley Bower (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) had 11 digs and Jessica Hilk (Fr., Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had 14 digs.
Augsburg returns to action next Friday (9/28) at 7 p.m. with an MIAC match against Hamline at Si Melby Hall.
