ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/19/07) -- Katie Medd (Jr., Mankato, Minn./West HS) scored the lone goal of the game on an unassisted break through the defense in the 77th minute, giving Augsburg College a 1-0 win over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon at Pat Paterson Field.

Maggie DeGroot * (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) recorded five saves in goal to claim her first shutout of the season and 19th of her career, the third-most career shutouts in school history.

"Although we did not play our best soccer, we were able to keep our composure and find the goal we needed to win," said Augsburg head coach Mike Navarre. "We knew it would be difficult. Hamline always seems to play us tough and today was no different. Hamline played very hard; Ted Zingman has done a great job with his team so far this season.

"I was pleased with how we handled adversity. We lost a key player to injury and were able to adjust and ultimately meet the demands of the game today."

Augsburg is now 3-2-2 overall, 1-0-1 in MIAC play; Hamline drops to 4-2-0 overall, 0-2-0 in MIAC play.

Hamline outshot Augsburg by a 21-16 margin, including a 15-8 edge in the second half. Laura Triplett (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) took the loss in goal for Hamline, with four saves.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (9/22) at 1 p.m. with an MIAC game at St. Thomas. Hamline returns to action on Friday (9/21) at 3:30 p.m. with a game at St. Mary's.

"Every game can be tough in the MIAC; there are no easy victories. Now we have to get ready for another difficult game against St. Thomas on Saturday," Navarre said.
