EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (1/11/08) -- With seven different players figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg College men's hockey team claimed its second win in a week over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, this time a 4-2 nonconference triumph on Friday night at the Hobbs Ice Center.
Tyler Antony (SO, Buffalo, Minn.), Tim Lawson (SR, Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer HS), Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) and Kellen Chamblee (JR, Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville HS) scored goals for Augsburg (2-10-2 overall), which also scored a 7-3 home win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire last Saturday.
Greg Petersen (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) had a goal and an assist for Wisconsin-Eau Claire (7-9-0 overall), which outshot Augsburg by a 44-21 margin.
Augsburg goalie Andrew Kent (JR, Lakeville, Minn.) claimed his second straight win, stopping 42 of the 44 shots he faced. Tyler Brigl (SO, Eagan, Minn.) took the loss in goal for the Blugolds, playing in relief of starter Aaron Johnson * (SO, Hayward, Wis.), who allowed two goals in nine shots in the first period.
Antony, who transferred to Augsburg from Gustavus and began playing at the semester break, scored his first goal in an Auggie uniform with an unassisted marker at the 6:19 mark of the first period. Lawson scored his first goal of the season for the Auggies at the 15:27 mark of the opening frame, assisted by Trevor McCormick (SR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) and Kurt Hogard (JR, Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius HS).
Johnson extended his point streak to three straight games with his fourth goal of the season, a power-play effort from Mario Mjelleli (FY, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) at the 11:04 mark of the second period.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire cut into the lead with two goals in the third period -- a power-play goal from Sean Garrity (SR, North St. Paul, Minn.), assisted by Petersen at the 9:21 mark, and an even-strength goal by Peterson from Ross Janecyk (FY, Grand Rapids, Minn.) at the 17:26 mark. But Augsburg capped the scoring with an unassisted, empty-net goal by Chamblee with 31 seconds left in the game.
Both teams are in nonconference action on Saturday (1/12), with Augsburg playing a 7:30 p.m. game at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Wisconsin-Eau Claire hosting Hamline at 7 p.m.
