Augsburg falls behind early, drops 70-60 decision to St. John's.

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (1/12/08) -- Brady Brink led all players with 24 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots, leading his St. John's University men's basketball team to a 70-60 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at SJU's Sexton Arena.

Jason Fogt had 14 points, three rebounds and three blocked shots, Nick Johnson had 13 points and Chris Schwartz had 11 points for St. John's (8-5 overall, 5-3 MIAC), which led 40-16 at halftime and led by as many as 25 points in the second half before Augsburg (3-9 overall, 1-6 MIAC) rallied late to cut the advantage to the 10-point final margin.

Augsburg was led by Nate Alm (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.), who had 10 points and four rebounds. Darren Nelson * (SR, Richfield, Minn.) scored 10 points with four rebounds, and David Olson (JR, Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) scored nine points with five steals.

Femi Solaja (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./St. Paul Harding HS) scored six points with nine rebounds. Jon Cassens (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) and Justin Kozlowski * (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) scored six points apiece for the Auggies.

St. John's built a 21-4 lead with 11:35 remaining in the first half, hitting 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field in the opening stanza, compared to just 35 percent (6-of-24) from the field for the Auggies. In the game, the Johnnies hit 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the field, compared to 39.0 percent (23-of-59) for the Auggies. St. Johnn's also outrebounded Augsburg by a 41-28 margin.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (1/16) at 7:30 p.m., with a home game against St. Mary's at Si Melby Hall.
