Wisconsin-Stevens Point pulls away in 3rd period, scores 6-2 win over Augsburg.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (1/12/08) -- Tyler Guay and Shane Foster scored two goals each, and Josh Calleja had three assists, as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire recorded a 6-2 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday night at Willett Arena.

Sean Fish and Brett Beckfeld added goals for Wisconsin-Stevens Point (11-5-1), which ran its unbeaten streak to six straight games with the win.

Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) and Jim Jensen (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) scored goals for Augsburg (2-11-2), which saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

Tied 1-1 after the first period, the Pointers scored two goals in the second frame, and after Augsburg cut the lead to 3-2 early in the third period, the Pointers scored three goals in succession to close the game.

Johnson ran his point streak to four straight games with his fifth goal of the season, a power-play marker from Dan Leopold (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) in the first period. Jensen claimed his sixth goal of the season, also a power-play marker from Mario Mjelleli (FY, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and Johnson, at the 6:30 mark of the third period.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point outshot Augsburg by a 34-22 mark, including a 15-4 advantage in the third period. Augsburg goalie Andrew Kent (JR, Lakeville, Minn.) collected 28 saves, while Tom Speer collected 20 saves for the Pointers.

Augsburg is idle next weekend and returns to action Jan. 25-26 with a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against St. John's.
