ST. CLOUD, Minn. (1/26/08) -- With 13 different players figuring in the scoring, the St. John's University men's hockey team completed a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series sweep of Augsburg College with a 6-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the National Hockey Center.
Nate Meinz scored two goals, while Jared Smith and Gabriel Harren had a goal and assist apiece for the Johnnies (9-8-2 overall, 5-3-2 MIAC). Jordan Swan and Pat Connelly also scored goals, with Tom Freeman adding two assists.
Augsburg's (2-13-2 overall, 0-8-0 MIAC) Dan Leopold (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) had three shots apiece.
St. John's outshot Augsburg by a 42-16 margin, including a 16-2 advantage in the first period. Adam Hendel (JR, Bay City, Wis./Red Wing (Minn.) HS collected 21 saves in a period-and-a-half, before being relieved by Michael Henrichsen (SR, Bothell, Wash.), who made 15 saves. Vince Wheeler made 16 saves in goal for St. John's.
Both teams face Gustavus in their next MIAC series. Augsburg will face the Gusties next Friday and Saturday (2/1-2), while the Johnnies have next weekend off before facing the Gusties on Feb. 8-9.
