MINNEAPOLIS (1/3/08) -- Scoring power-play goals from Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) and Dan Leopold (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) in a 46-second span late in the second period, the Augsburg College men's hockey team rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Polytechnic in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Johnson scored the Auggies' first power-play marker at the 18:43 mark of the second period from Joel Sauer (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and Leopold, and after another penalty was called on the Trojans 26 seconds later, Leopold put the Auggies in front with a power-play marker from Johnson and Sauer at the 19:29 mark.

Because the game pitted American and Canadian schools, it is considered an exhibition and does not count on either teams' standings or statistics. It is the first game of a three-game trip for SAIT Polytechnic to the Upper Midwest; the Trojans will face Wisconsin-Stout on Friday (1/4) at 7:30 p.m. in Menomonie, Wis., and will face St. Thomas on Saturday (1/5) at 6 p.m. in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Shane Lust (FY, Calgary, Alberta) opened the scoring for the Trojans at the 10:44 mark of the first period, scoring on a blast off the post with an assist given to Kevin Lessard (FY, St. Foy, Quebec).

Augsburg used two goalies in the contest. Adam Hendel (JR, Bay City, Wis./Red Wing (Minn.) HS) started and stopped 15 of 16 shots he faced in 32 minutes of work; Michael Henrichsen (SR, Bothell, Wash.) picked up the victory, stopping all 20 shots he faced in 27:41 of work. Landon Kroeker (FY, Winnipeg, Manitoba) collected 28 saves for SAIT Polytechnic. The Trojans outshot Augsburg by a 36-30 margin, including a 14-6 advantage in the third period.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (1/5) at 7:05 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
