Women's Hockey 11/14/08 -- Bethel 7, Augsburg 1
MINNEAPOLIS (11/14/08) -- Sandra Felten (SR, Cashton, Wis./Westby Area HS) scored three goals for a hat trick and added two assists for a five-point night, and Bethany Murphy-Aultman (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored two goals and had two assists, as Bethel University claimed a 7-1 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Allison Papko (SO, Winnipeg, Manitoba/Dakota Collegiate HS) had a goal and an assist, Anna Carlson (FY, Roseville, Minn.) had three assists and Kassy Sullivan (SO, Roseville, Minn.) scored a goal for Bethel (1-3-0 overall, 1-0-0 MIAC).
Whitney Pratt (SO, Mitchell, S.D.) scored her first collegiate goal for Augsburg (0-2-0 overall, 0-1-0 MIAC) at the 12:13 mark of the third period, assisted by Whitney Restemayer (JR, Bemidji, Minn.).
Felten had a shorthanded and power-play goal as part of her hat trick. The Royals scored three goals in the final 3:02 of the first period, and added another three goals in the final 5:05 of the second period.
Augsburg goalie Grace Edgar (SO, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) claimed 15 saves in the second and third periods, while starter Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) had 21 saves. Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 43-24 margin, with Royal goalie Beth Spurrier (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) making 23 saves.
For Augsburg, Kali Holst (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) had four shots each, with Sara Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) adding three shots.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (11/15) at 3 p.m. at the Schwan SuperRink in Blaine, Minn.
