Bethel rallies for 4-2 victory over Augsburg

BLAINE, Minn. (11/15/08) -- Scoring three third-period goals, the Bethel University women's hockey team overcame a 2-1 deficit and scored a 4-2 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at the Schwan SuperRink.

Augsburg (0-3-0 overall, 0-2-0 MIAC) had taken a 2-1 lead on goals from Whitney Restemayer (JR, Bemidji, Minn.) in the first period and from Kali Holst (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) early in the third period. But Bethel (2-3-0 overall, 2-0-0 MIAC) stormed back, with a shorthanded goal from Rachel Geng (FY, South St. Paul, Minn.) at the 9:51 mark, a goal from Anna Baumgarten (SR, Elmhurst, Ill./Lexington Academy HS) at the 14:33 mark and a goal from Bethany Murphy-Aultman (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) at the 15:20 mark.

Alison Ulseth (FY, Orono, Minn.) and Andrea Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) assisted on Restemayer's first-period goal, and Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) assisted on Holst's third-period goal.

Bethel outshot Augsburg by a 50-21 margin, including a 17-7 advantage in the third period. Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) had 46 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Royal goalie Beth Spurrier (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) made 19 saves.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play next weekend with a two-game series against St. Thomas, with Friday's (11/21) game at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, and Saturday's (11/22) game at 7 p.m. at the UST/St. Thomas Academy Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn.
