MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (11/22/08) -- Jim Jensen (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) had two goals and Cory Ellertson (SO, Albert Lea, Minn.) had three assists, but for the second consecutive night it wasn't enough, as the University of St. Thomas edged Augsburg College in a hard fought 6-5 win in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey action on Saturday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg (2-5-0 overall, 2-2-0 MIAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off goals by Gerrit Hooker (SO, Dayton, Minn./Osseo HS) and John Lennartson (FY, Burnsville, Minn.). St. Thomas (3-2-1 overall, 2-0-0 MIAC) answered back scoring the next four goals, giving them the 4-2 advantage.
The Auggies weren't ready to be done yet, as they were sparked by a shorthanded goal at the 9:14 mark by Jensen. Exactly three minutes later, Jensen would score his second goal of the night, assisted by Ellertson and Tyler Antony (JR, Buffalo, Minn.). With 31 seconds left in the second period, Chris Johnson (JR, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) would score to put the Auggies ahead 5-4.
Augsburg was not able to hold back the Tommies, as they scored twice in the third period to steal the come-from-behind victory. St. Thomas was led by Parker Burgess, who scored two goals and two assists on the night.
St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 27-20 margin. Andrew Kent (SR, Lakeville, Minn.) stopped 21 shots for Augsburg, while Tyler Chestnut and Sean Deichert combined for 15 saves for St. Thomas.
