Men's Hockey 11/7/08 -- St. Scholastica 3, Augsburg 2
DULUTH, Minn. (11/7/08) -- Jordan Chong figured in the scoring on all three College of St. Scholastica goals, with two goals and an assist in the Saints' 3-2 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's hockey game on Friday night at the Mars Lakeview Arena.
Nick Guran (FY, McHenry, Ill.) and Bryan Frischmann (SO, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) scored power-play goals for Augsburg (0-2-0 overall), giving the Auggies a 2-1 lead early in the second period. But St. Scholastica (2-1-1 overall) rallied to claim the win, with Kyle Luchinski scoring at the 9:34 mark of the period, and Chong scoring the eventual game-winner at the 6:29 mark of the third frame.
Augsburg had four power-play opportunities in the final 6:15 of play, but could not get the puck past St. Scholastica goalie Steve Bounds, who had 26 saves in a winning effort. Augsburg goalie Andrew Kent (SR, Lakeville, Minn.) made 29 saves, as the Saints outshot the Auggies by a 32-28 margin. Augsburg was 2-for-7 on power plays in the game.
Mario Mjelleli (SO, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) and Trevor Doden (FY, Red Wing, Minn.) assisted on Guran's first-period power-play goal, and Ben Roberts (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Joel Sauer (SO, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) assisted on Frischmann's power-play goal, just 21 seconds into the second period.
Augsburg completes its nonconference trip to the Twin Ports on Saturday (11/8) at 7 p.m., with a game at Wisconsin-Superior.
