MINNEAPOLIS (2/1/08) -- Stefanie Ubl (SR, Blaine, Minn.) scored a goal and added two assists for a three-point night, leading Gustavus Adolphus College in a 5-1 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg (3-12-1 overall, 3-7-1 MIAC) goalie Toni Menth (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) claimed a career-high 51 saves, marking the fourth time she has made more than 40 saves this season and 14th time she has collected 30-plus saves.
Ten different players figured in the scoring for Gustavus (16-1-0 overall, 11-1-0 MIAC), the No. 4-ranked team in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll, as the Gusties won their 16th straight game.
Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 56-11 margin, including a 25-2 advantage in the first period, as the Gusties scored four goals in the first 14:40 of play. Allie Harwood (FY, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), Laura Hillman (SO, Albert Lea, Minn.), Lisa Sablak (FY, South St. Paul, Minn.) and Jessie Doig (JR, New Prague, Minn.) scored goals for the Gusties in the opening frame. Sablak's goal was a shorthanded tally. Ubl scored her goal at the 6:19 mark of the third period.
Augsburg scored its lone goal in the second period, as an Emily Merhar (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot from the point was deflected off a Gustavus player into the net for a power-play goal, her first goal of the season, at the 17:34 mark. Tiffany Magnuson (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) collected an assist on the goal, extending her consecutive-game point streak to six games, with 10 points (five goals, five assists) in the span. Magnuson leads the Auggies with 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) on the year.
Brenna Scavo (SO, Blaine, Minn./North St. Paul HS) started in the goal for the Gusties and stopped seven shots in two-and-a-half periods of work. Sarah Windhorst (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) stopped all three shots she faced in 11 minutes of work in the third period.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/2) at 2 p.m. in St. Peter.
