MINNEAPOLIS (2/20/08) -- Kristina Lurken * (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) claimed her seventh double-double (fourth point-rebound) of the season with 14 points, 11 rebounds, adding six assists and three steals in leading Augsburg College to a 64-46 victory over St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
Shannon Renne (FY, Nicollet, Minn.) led all players with 15 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and Melanie Wigen (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) scored 11 points with five assists for Augsburg (7-17 overall, 5-16 MIAC), which reached the seven-win mark for the second time in the last three seasons.
Jess Miller (FY, Carver, Minn./Chaska HS) led St. Mary's (4-20 overall, 3-18 MIAC) with 12 points, adding six rebounds and three assists. Jessica Weisbrod (SR, Rollingstone, Minn./Winona Cotter HS) scored eight points with six rebounds and three steals, and Jesa Hall (FY, Glenwood City, Wis.) came off the bench to score eight points.
Leading 34-29 at halftime, Augsburg outscored St. Mary's by a 30-17 mark in the second half, connecting on 6-of-10 from three-point range. Renne scored nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range in the second half, while Lurken scored eight points with nine rebounds and five assists in the second half.
St. Mary's had cut the Auggie advantage to four points, 36-32, with 16:35 left to play, but Augsburg scored used an 11-2 run to take a 13-point lead, 47-34 with 12:51 left. Renne had two 3-pointers in the run. Augsburg held a double-digit lead the rest of the way, and the 18-point margin of victory was Augsburg's largest lead of the game.
Augsburg outrebounded St. Mary's by a 50-31 margin, and collected 19 points off of 15 St. Mary's turnovers. The Cardinals scored 11 points off of 15 Augsburg turnovers.
Christa Suedbeck (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) scored eight points with eight rebounds and two blocked shots for the Auggies, while Katie LaGrave * (SR, Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) and Megan Krumrie (SR, Elk Mound, Wis.) scored six points apiece, both adding five rebounds and LaGrave adding four assists. Brietta Schluender (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) had six rebounds to go along with four points.
Stephanie Ayers (SO, Deer River, Minn.) scored seven points with seven rebounds and two steals for the Cardinals, and Nicholle Hanson (JR, Owatonna, Minn.) scored six points with three assists.
Both teams finish their seasons on Saturday (2/23) at 1 p.m., as Augsburg plays at Bethel and St. Mary's plays at Concordia-Moorhead.
