WINONA, Minn. (2/23/08) -- Playing in her final collegiate women's hockey game, Katie Medd (SR, Mankato, Minn./East HS) scored two second-period goals to lead Augsburg College to a 3-3, overtime tie with St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night at the SMU Ice Arena.
Andrea Toft (SO, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had a goal and an assist, and Whitney Restemayer (SO, Bemidji, Minn.) collected two assists for Augsburg (4-16-3 overall, 4-11-3 MIAC).
Ingrid Klockars (FY, Wheaton, Ill.), Jenn Shire (SR, Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and Amy Zimniewicz (FY, River Falls, Wis./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) scored goals for St. Mary's (5-15-3 overall, 5-11-2 MIAC). It was the final game of the season for both teams.
After a 1-1 first period on goals by Toft and Klockars, Augsburg scored twice in the second period, as Medd scored from Restemayer and Toft on the power play at the 1:20 mark, and Medd scored again from Tiffany Magnuson (JR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) and Jenna Knudtson (FY, Austin, Minn.) at the 15:46 mark.
But St. Mary's scored twice in the third period, as Shire scored at the 5:56 mark and Zimniewicz scored a power-play goal, after the Cardinals pulled their goalie for an extra skater, with 45 seconds left in regulation.
Augsburg outshot St. Mary's by a 3-2 margin in overtime, but neither team could score, despite Augsburg having a power play during the extra session.
St. Mary's outshot Augsburg by a 43-30 margin in the game, including a 21-6 margin in the third period. Auggie goalie Toni Menth (SO, Buffalo, Minn.) stopped 40 shots for the win, the 19th time this season she has claimed 30 or more saves. Jessie Smith (SR, Steamboat Springs, Colo./Lowell-Whiteman HS) recorded 27 saves in goal for the Cardinals.
