Augsburg gets back on winning track, tops St. Olaf 75-69!

MINNEAPOLIS (2/4/08) -- Shannon Renne (FY, Nicollet, Minn.) scored a career-high 24 points, and Kristina Lurken * (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) collected her second point-assist double-double of the season and fifth double-double overall, as Augsburg College claimed a 75-69 triumph over visiting St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Monday night at Si Melby Hall.

Christa Suedbeck (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) scored 15 points with six rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots, and Katie LaGrave * (SR, Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) scored 12 points with four rebounds and three assists for Augsburg (6-13 overall, 4-12 MIAC), which snapped a six-game losing streak with the victory.

Elyse Erickson (JR, Long Lake, Minn./Orono HS) came off the bench to score 22 points -- hitting 10-of-13 from the free-throw line -- to lead St. Olaf (6-13 overall, 5-11 MIAC). Kelsey Oja (JR, Melrose, Minn.) scored 17 points with five rebounds and four assists, Danielle Stoermer (SR, Wayzata, Minn.) scored 15 points with eight rebounds, and Kristina Stoermer (SR, Wayzata, Minn.) collected a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

In a game that featured nine ties and seven lead changes, the Auggies were able to pull away in the final two minutes. Tied at 64-64, LaGrave hit a three-pointer with 2:23 left to give the Auggies the lead for good at 67-64, and after that, the Auggies scored their remaining points from the free-throw line, hitting 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 1:36. Augsburg hit 14-of-17 from the free-throw line in the game.

Augsburg shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28) in the first half and overcame an early eight-point deficit to take a 43-35 lead at halftime. The Auggies led by as many as 12 points in the second half, before the Oles rallied to tie the game three times in the period. In the game, the Auggies hit 50.0 percent (28-of-56) from the field in the game, including five 3-pointers.

St. Olaf hit 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field, but hit just 3-of-13 from three-point range -- all three from Oja. The Oles connected on 18-of-24 from the free-throw line, and outrebounded Augsburg by a 33-27 margin.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (2/6). Augsburg hosts Macalester at 5:45 p.m., and St. Olaf hosts St. Benedict at 7:30 p.m.
