Macalester rallies in 2nd half to top Augsburg 64-62.

MINNEAPOLIS (2/6/08) -- Trina PaStarr (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) scored 22 points with 12 rebounds, including 15 points in the second half and the game-winning basket with 3.5 seconds left, as Macalester College rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to score a 64-62 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

The Scots (8-12 overall, 7-10 MIAC) trailed 46-33 with 14:21 left, then used a 25-4 run over the next 10:38 to take their biggest lead at eight points, 58-50 with 3:43 left.

Augsburg (6-14 overall, 4-13 MIAC) eventually rallied to tie the game at 62-62 on a three-pointer by Katie LaGrave * (SR, Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS), but the Scots ran the clock down and scored on PaStarr's layup with 3.3 seconds left. Augsburg got the ball to halfcourt with one second left and called a timeout, but could not get a shot off as the game ended.

LaGrave had 12 points, three assists and three steals for the Auggies, while Shannon Renne (FY, Nicollet, Minn.) and Michelle Richter (JR, Chaska, Minn.) also had 12 points, with Richter adding five rebounds and two steals, and Renne adding four rebounds.

Kristina Lurken * (SR, Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) scored 11 points with eight assists, six rebounds and two steals, and Christa Suedbeck (JR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) scored eight points with six rebounds and two blocked shots.

For Macalester, Ann Baltzer (SO, Bismarck, N.D.) scored 12 points with seven rebounds and a block, and Danielle Johnson (SO, DeForest, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS) scored 12 points with three assists and a steal. Alyssa Lunde (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Eartha Bell (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Breck HS) each contributed six points, seven rebounds and four assists.

There were six ties and five lead changes in the game. Macalester scored 21 points off of 14 Augsburg turnovers, while Augsburg scored just 11 points off of 16 Macalester miscues.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (2/9), as Augsburg plays at St. Benedict at 3 p.m., and Macalester hosts St. Olaf at 1 p.m.
