OSHKOSH, Wis. (9/28/08) -- Goalkeeper Pascaul Venter (JR, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) scored his second shutout of the season and 15th of his career, as Augsburg College claimed a 0-0 tie in two overtimes with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a nonconference men's soccer game on Sunday afternoon at UWO's J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Auggies were outshot by a 16-7 margin in the game, but Venter collected four saves in goal to claim the shutout in the second straight tie for the Auggies on their weekend trip to Wisconsin. Augsburg tied Wisconsin-Whitewater 1-1 on Friday.

"Oshkosh is a talented team. They had the ball more than we did, but we were organized in defense and did a great job denying them scoring chances. On the other hand, we hit the post once and had several other chances on counters," said Augsburg head coach Greg Holker. "It was a good weekend for us -- we got better and we have some good film to review. We got to use a few players in some different spots, learned a bit more about our team, and earned points in two challenging road games."

Augsburg is now 5-1-3 overall, while Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the No. 5-ranked team in the Central Region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America regional rankings, is 6-1-1 overall.

Augsburg was outshot 7-1 in the second half, but that lone Auggie shot, by Brian Jungwirth (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Lutheran HS), hit the post with 30 minutes left in regulation time. The Titans outshot the Auggies by a 5-2 margin in the 20 minutes of overtime.

"Lucas Ingram (JR, Woodbury, Minn.) had his hands full today and did a great job shutting down their dangerous players," Holker said. "Simon Rekkebo (FY, Trondheim, Norway) was impressive again and showed he belongs on the field. Alex Hildebrandt (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) was our best player on the weekend, and James See (SR, Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels HS) and Van Hong (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn.) each showed well. We are getting better -- and we are close to being pretty darn good."

Tim Gindville collected one save in goal for Wisconsin-Oshkosh, which also had six corner kicks to Augsburg's two.

Augsburg is now idle until next Saturday (10/4) at 7:30 p.m., when St. Mary's visits Edor Nelson Field in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

"We look forward to a week of training before returning to our MIAC competition Saturday night against St. Mary's. We have to keep getting better in order to realize our goals," Holker said.
