EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (9/6/08) -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated Augsburg College (Minn.) 3-0 in the Blugolds' 2008 home opener at the Bollinger Fields on Saturday afternoon.

The Blugolds improved to 2-0-1 with the victory, while Augsburg, which came into the game undefeated this season, falls to 3-1-0. The Blugolds remain undefeated against the Auggies all-time, holding a 10-0-2 record. Wisconsin-Eau Claire entered the game ranked No. 16 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III national poll, and is the first of three straight teams Augsburg will face on the road that reached the Division III national tournament last season.

Jessica Millard got the Blugolds on the board first, scoring her first goal of the season unassisted at 36:25. For the first half, the Blugolds outshot Augsburg 10-0. In the second half the Blugolds scored two more goals. The first came at 56:16 on a pass by Allison Muer that was deflected by a defender into the goal. Rachel Nerison netted her second goal of the year at 77:25 to make the score 3-0. The assist went to Muer.

In the net, Allie Rivard played the entire 90 minutes. She had no saves, as the Auggies got off only one shot the entire game -- by Courtney Gamrath (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) -- which was not on goal. The Blugolds, on the other hand, got off 18 shots for the game, 12 of which were on goal. Augsburg goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot (SR, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) surrendered her first two goals of the season, collecting nine saves in goal before being replaced by Katie Flakne (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Holy Angels HS), who saw action in the final 13:20.

Both teams are in action on Wednesday (9/10). Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 2 p.m. game at Concordia-Moorhead, while Wisconsin-Eau Claire hosts St. Olaf at 4 p.m. in a nonconference game.
