Macalester claims 84-58 win over Augsburg.

MINNEAPOLIS (1/10/09) -- Augsburg College dropped an 84-58 Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball game to Macalester College on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (2-9 overall, 0-8 MIAC) was led by Christa Suedbeck (SR, Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), who scored 14 points and posted eight rebounds with four blocked shots. Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies were Shannon Renne (SO, Nicollet, Minn.), Michelle Richter (SR, Chaska, Minn.) and Serenae Levine (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn.). Renne recorded 12 points, while Richter and Levine each chipped in 10. Richter posted a team-leading three steals and finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Levine recorded a team-high three assists.

For Macalester (7-4 overall, 5-3 MIAC), Ann Baltzer (JR, Bismarck, N.D.) led the way, scoring 18 points and six rebounds while adding two blocked shots. The Scots were led on the boards by Majra Mucic (SO, Zenica, Bosnia/St. Louis Park HS) who recorded 10 rebounds and 11 points for a double-double.

The Auggies scored the first bucket of the game, taking a 2-0 lead on a jumper by Richter, assisted by Suedbeck. Macalester came back on their next possession and tied the score with a layup by Baltzer. Macalester took a 4-2 lead on the next trip up the floor and would never look back. Augsburg couldn't keep up with balanced Macalester offense that shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the floor for the game and outscored the Auggies in bench points 39-8.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (1/14) at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Carleton College in MIAC action.
