Women's Hockey 1/16/09 -- St. Benedict 5, Augsburg 1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (1/16/09) -- Gretchen Leydendecker recorded a three-goal hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night, leading the College of St. Benedict to a 5-1 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday night at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
Rachel Welz and Kerri Graske had a goal and assist apiece for the Blazers (5-4-0 overall, 3-4-0 MIAC), and Holly Reinking and Patty King had two assists each.
Augsburg's (3-11-0 overall, 0-7-0 MIAC) lone goal came from Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS), who scored from Jess Olson (JR, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) with two minutes remaining in the third period.
St. Benedict outshot Augsburg by a 50-21 margin. Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) had 46 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Abbie Helminen had 19 saves for the Blazers.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/17) at 2:15 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
