Auggies hang tough, but fall 4-2 to Gustavus in series-opener.

MINNEAPOLIS (1/23/09) -- The forward line made up of the Dynan brothers -- Casey Dynan (SR, Maple Plain, Minn./Orono HS), Patrick Dynan (JR, Maple Plain, Minn./Orono HS) and Rory Dynan (JR, Maple Plain, Minn.) -- accounted for three of the four goals Gustavus Adolphus College scored on Friday, as the Gusties claimed a 4-2 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Joel Sauer (SO, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) and Nick Guran (FY, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) had a goal and assist apiece, and Chris Johnson (JR, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) had two assists for Augsburg (3-13-0 overall, 2-5-0 MIAC).

But Patrick Dynan had a goal and two assists, Rory Dynan had a goal and an assist, and Casey Dynan scored a goal for Gustavus (11-7-0 overall, 6-3-0 MIAC). David Martinson (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn.) scored his team-leading 20th goal of the season to open the game for the Gusties, adding an assist for a two-point night.

Gustavus' Martinson scored first at the 8:22 mark, but Augsburg matched it with a goal from Sauer at the 3:40 mark of the second frame. However, Gustavus took the lead back 35 seconds later, as Casey Dynan scored, with assists to his two brothers. Augsburg tied the game again at the 8:15 mark, as Guran scored on the power play, but the Gusties took the lead for good, as Patrick Dynan scored with 1:23 left in the second frame. The Gusties capped the scoring with a power-play, empty-net goal from Rory Dynan with 15 seconds left in the game.

Both teams had 27 shots in the game. Andrew Kent (SR, Lakeville, Minn.) claimed 23 saves in goal for the Auggies, while John Swartout (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn.) had 25 saves for the Gusties.

The teams complete the series on Saturday (1/24) at 7 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
