Women's Hockey 1/31/09 -- Concordia-Moorhead 7, Augsburg 0
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/31/09) -- Alyssa Dahl scored two goals, while Becca Kent and Brit Vander Kooy had a goal and assist apiece, as the Concordia College-Moorhead women's hockey team completed a series sweep with a 7-0 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at the Moorhead Sports Center.
Bre Bian had three assists, and Kit Holloway, Emily Sell and Katelyn Dold added goals for Concordia (10-7-2 overall, 7-4-1 MIAC).
Augsburg (3-16-0 overall, 0-12-0 MIAC) was outshot by a 38-26 margin, but could not convert on 11 power-play opportunities in the game. Meanwhile, Concordia went 4-for-4 on its power plays in the game. The Cobbers scored five goals -- including four in a 3:48 span late in the period.
Sara Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had seven shots on goal for the Auggies, while Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS), had five shots and Jess Olson (JR, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) had three shots.
Augsburg goalie Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) collected 26 saves in the first two periods, with Grace Edgar (SO, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) had five saves in relief in the third period. Amber Malcom had 26 saves for the Cobbers.
Augsburg returns to action with a two-game series against Hamline next weekend. Next Friday's (2/6) game is at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, while Saturday's (2/7) game is at 7:15 p.m. at the Drake Ice Arena in St. Paul.
