Augsburg falls 79-46 at Concordia-Moorhead.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/5/09) -- Augsburg College dropped a 79-46 Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball game to Concordia College-Moorhead on Monday night at Concordia's Memorial Auditorium. Concordia's Jenna Freudenberg (SR, Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie HS) led all players with 20 points and five assists.

Augsburg was led by Lexi Thompson (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), who scored a career-high 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field. Thompson also chipped in four rebounds and two assists. Maggie DeGroot (SR, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) also had a career night for the Auggies,  posting eight points, seven rebounds and three assists, all career-best marks.

The Auggies played well in through the first 10 minutes, taking a one-point lead at the 10:46 mark off a layup by Thompson, who was able to put back an offensive rebound. The Cobbers went on a 12-1 run over the next three minutes to build a 26-14 lead. Ashley Erickson (FY, Bemidji, Minn.) hit a three-pointer at the 6:19 mark to give the Auggies a spark, but Augsburg not able to keep up with the Cobbers, who connected on five 3-pointers and took a 40-26 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Auggies struggled with foul trouble in the second half, with three players fouling out before the end of the contest. Augsburg was not able to keep up with the depth of the Cobbers, as the Concordia bench outscored the Augsburg bench 42-13. Concordia's Maggie Bauernfeind (SO, Rosemount, Minn/Rosemount HS) led the Cobber reserves with 16 points on a 7-for-10 shooting performance.

For the game, the Auggies shot 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field, while the Cobbers shot 46.4 percent (32-of-69). Concordia held a 43-30 advantage on the boards and outscored the Auggies 44-14 in the paint.

Augsburg will return to action on Wednesday (1/7) at 7:30 p.m., when it travels to St. Joseph to take on MIAC-leading St. Benedict.
