Holst nets hat trick, Leyden scores 2, Auggies get first win with 5-0 triumph at Finlandia (Mich.)!

HANCOCK, Mich. (1/7/09) -- Kali Holst (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) claimed her first collegiate hat trick with a three-goal night, while Erin Leyden (SO, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) had the other two Augsburg College goals, as the Auggies claimed their first women's hockey victory of the season with a 5-0 nonconference triumph at host Finlandia University on Wednesday night at the Houghton County Arena.

Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) assisted on three goals, while Jess Olson (JR, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) had two assists for Augsburg (1-10-0 overall). Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) claimed her first collegiate shutout in goal for the Auggies with a 33-save effort.

Holst scored for the Auggies midway through the second period, and notched the final two goals of the game on power-play tallies in the second and third periods. Holst now has a team-high seven goals for the Auggies. Leyden scored at the 2:46 mark of the first period and the 14:43 mark of the second period.

Also notching assists for the Auggies were Jenna Knudtson (SO, Austin, Minn.), Whitney Restemayer (JR, Bemidji, Minn.), Alison Ulseth (FY, Orono, Minn.) and Sara Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS).

Both teams had 33 shots in the game. Annika Danielson had 28 saves for Finlandia.

The teams complete the nonconference series on Thursday (1/8) at 7 p.m. at Finlandia.
