MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leader Carleton College scored two goals in the second half, claiming a 2-0 victory over host Augsburg College in men's soccer action on Saturday evening at Edor Nelson Field.

Augsburg (5-7-1 overall, 1-6-0 MIAC) outshot Carleton (11-3-0 overall, 8-1-0 MIAC) by an 18-15 margin, though the Knights outshot the Auggies by an 11-9 margin in the second half.

Ryan Cammarota (SO, Neenah, Wis.) scored an unassisted goal on a rebound off of a save attempt in the 49th minute, and Wes Elfman (JR, Madison, Wis./Edgewood HS) scored an unassisted goal on a long sprint in the closing seconds of play for the Knights.

"In the second half, they scored early and then we had a guy sent off foolishly. Chasing the game with 10 players, we still drove at the goal and had the ball. It was an exciting game that was decided really in the final seconds," said Augsburg head coach Greg Holker. "I wish there was some reward for playing your heart out and playing attractive soccer. Bottom line is that we have to snap this scoring drought."

Augsburg goalkeeper Pascaul Venter (SR, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) had two saves in goal, while Carleton goalkeeper Pete Semmer (JR, Del Mar, Calif./Bishop's School) had five saves.

"Wow. Congratulations to Carleton on claiming their third consecutive (MIAC) title. They are a very good team," Holker said. "So are we -- we just have to ignore the standings. They don't tell the story of this team, not even close. We were all over them in the first half, but decided to extend our scoreless streak and missed our best chances. They had two chances in some chaotic moments, but other than that, we took the game right at them and were better."

Jeff Butler (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) had four shots to lead the Auggies, while David Scheller (SO, Maple Grove, Minn.) had three shots, and Chad Gilmer (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Ryan Sorensen (SR,  Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) had two shots each.

Augsburg returns to action with a nonconference match against St. Scholastica on Tuesday (10/20) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
