Auggies tie St. Thomas 3-3

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Chris Johnson (SR, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) and Nick Guran (SO, McHenry, Ill./McHenry East HS) had a goal and assist apiece, as Augsburg College scored a 3-3, overtime tie with the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.

Augsburg (2-3-1 overall, 0-1-1 MIAC) built a 3-0 lead after two periods, but St. Thomas (3-1-2 overall, 1-0-1 MIAC) rallied to tie the game, with the game-tying goal coming with 57 seconds left in regulation time.

Justin Lochner (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 30 saves in goal for the Auggies. The Tommies outshot the Auggies by a 33-24 margin in the game, including a 13-10 advantage in the third period and overtime.

Augsburg scored all three of its goals on the power play, going 3-for-4 with the man advantage in the game. St. Thomas was 0-for-4 on the power play.

Johnson opened the scoring with a goal from Guran at the 4:58 mark of the first period. David Hines (SO, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) scored from Johnson at the 1:20 mark of the second period, and Mario Mjelleli (JR, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) capped the Auggie scoring at the 10:26 mark, scoring from Guran and Kris Reinthaler (FY, Graz, Austria/Spring Creek Academy (Texas) HS).

Parker Burgess scored twice for the Tommies in the third period, with Andy Singerhouse adding the other St. Thomas goal. Joe Schraeder had 21 saves in goal for St. Thomas.

Augsburg has a nonconference series next Friday and Saturday (11/20-21), hosting Concordia-Wisconsin at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Friday's game is at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday's game is at 2 p.m.
