Toni Menth (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) collected a season-high 54 saves for Augsburg College, but the University of St. Thomas claimed a split of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey weekend series with a 6-0 decision on Sunday afternoon at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.
St. Thomas (5-4-2 overall, 4-1-1 MIAC) outshot Augsburg (1-7-2 overall, 1-3-2 MIAC) by a 60-17 margin and scored four goals in the third period to break the game open.
Eleven different players figured into the scoring for the Tommies, with Amy Zimniewicz scoring two goals. Justina DeBruzzi and Meghan Parker had a goal and an assist apiece.
Sara Toft (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had four shots on goal for Augsburg, while
Jenna Knudtson (JR, Austin, Minn.),
Erica Berthold (FY, Issaquah, Wash.),
Erin Leyden (JR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) and
Jess Olson (SR, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS) had two shots each.
The game was the seventh this season in which Menth has recorded 35 or more saves.
Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to action Jan. 8-9 with a series at Finlandia (Mich.).
