Auggies tie St. Benedict 2-2

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kali Holst (SO, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) had a goal and assist, both coming on power-play goals in the third period, as Augsburg College skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with the College of St. Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Holst tied the game at 1-1 on a power-play goal from Whitney Restemayer (SR, Bemidji, Minn.) at the 2:233 mark of the third period, then assisted on a power-play marker by Sara Toft (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) at the 6:28 mark, giving Augsburg (0-6-1 overall, 0-2-1 MIAC) a 2-1 lead.

But St. Benedict (1-4-1 overall, 0-2-1 MIAC) tied the game with 51 seconds left in regulation time, as the Blazers pulled their goalie and Kerri Graske (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) scored with the extra skater from Jennifer Yelle (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Amie Ernst (SO, North Mankato, Minn./Mankato Loyola HS).

Graske also assisted on the first goal of the game, a shorthanded goal by Ernst early in the second period.

Augsburg outshot St. Benedict by a 38-34 margin, including a 33-23 margin in the final two periods and overtime.

Augsburg goalie Toni Menth (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) had 32 saves, while St. Benedict goalie Lauren Herzog (SO, Mendota Heights, Minn./Visitation HS) had 36 saves.

The teams complete the weekend series on Saturday (12/5) at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud, Minn.
