Augsburg falls to Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) recorded a career-high 12 points for Augsburg, but the Auggies struggled offensively and dropped an 80-39 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest to Gustavus on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court.

Augsburg was led by Schranks's 12 points and five rebounds. Also scoring in double-figures for the Auggies was Ashley Erickson (SO, Bemidji, Minn.), who recorded 10 points and seven rebounds. Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) led the Auggies on the boards, tying a career-high with eight rebounds.

Gustavus was led by Abby Rothenbuehler, who collected the only double-double of the night with a 19-point, 15 rebound effort. Also scoring in double figures for the Gusties was Molly Geske, who posted 12 points and five rebounds. Julia Schultz collected 10 rebounds and eight points for the Gusties.

The Gusties scored the opening basket of the night and would never give up the lead. Augsburg was only down by four with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half but wouldn't get any closer as the Auggies struggled on both ends of the floor.

For the game, Augsburg shot 22.2 percent (12-of-54) from the field, while Gustavus connected on 45.8 percent (33-of-72). Gustavus claimed a 51-42 advantage on the boards and forced 24 Augsburg turnovers, while only committing 13.

Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/12) when they travel to Roseville, Minn. to take on Northwestern College. The Gusties will be off until after the holidays, when they travel to St. Paul to take on St. Catherine University.
