Magnuson scores twice, Augsburg ties St. Mary's 2-2 (OT)!

Women's Hockey 2/14/09 -- Augsburg 2, St. Mary's 2 (OT)

MINNEAPOLIS (2/14/09) -- Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) scored both Augsburg College goals, as the Auggie women's hockey team claimed a 2-2, overtime tie with St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Augsburg (5-17-1 overall, 2-13-1 MIAC) goalie Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) collected 39 saves in goal for the tie, marking the 12th time she has recorded 30-plus saves this season. St. Mary's (6-13-2 overall, 5-9-2 MIAC) outshot Augsburg by a 41-29 margin.

After Magnuson put the Auggies ahead with a goal from Whitney Pratt (SO, Mitchell, S.D.) and Elise Hedlund (SO, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) late in the first period, the Cardinals tied the game on a goal from Jamie Henneman (SO, Countryside, Ill.) at the 8:27 mark of the second frame.

Magnuson again put the Auggies ahead on a breakaway goal, assisted by Brya Erickson (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) at the 6:40 mark of the third period, but the Cardinals tied the game on an unassisted goal by Alex Braun (FY, Darwin, Minn.) at the 9:04 mark.

The teams played a scoreless overtime period, with Augsburg collecting four shots and St. Mary's recording three shots. Madeline Lenz (FY, White Bear Lake, Minn.) had 27 saves in goal for the Cardinals.

Both teams have their final MIAC series of the regular season next weekend, as Augsburg plays St. Olaf and St. Mary's plays St. Benedict.
