Women's Hockey 2/20/09 -- St. Olaf 4, Augsburg 3 (OT)

MINNEAPOLIS (2/20/09) -- Meghan Stumpf (SO, Oakdale, Minn/Hill-Murray HS) scored the game-winning goal at the 2:17 mark of overtime, giving St. Olaf College a 4-3 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Stumpf scored on an assist from Kari McClintick (JR, Chaska, Minn.) on the lone shot of overtime for St. Olaf (7-13-4 overall, 6-9-2 MIAC), which outshot Augsburg (5-18-1 overall, 2-14-1 MIAC) by a 31-23 margin.

Augsburg's Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) edged closer to a career scoring milestone with a two-goal, one-assist effort on Friday. In her 97th career game, she now has 65 goals and 34 assists for 99 career points, just one point shy from becoming the third player in Augsburg's 14-year history of women's hockey to reach the 100-point plateau. Magnuson's 65 goals are second-most in school history, just three goals from tying Augsburg's career record of 68, set by Angie Rieger (1998-2001). Augsburg's career point record is 137, held by Lauren Chezick (2002-05); Rieger finished her career with 120 points.

Magnuson scored twice in the first period, both from Jess Olson (JR, Hamel, Minn./Wayzata HS), as the Auggies built a 2-1 lead. McClintick scored the Oles' lone goal of the first frame. She added two assists later for a three-point night.

St. Olaf tied the game 13 seconds into the second period with a goal from Krista Kontny (JR, Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek HS). Brya Erickson (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) put the Auggies ahead on a power-play goal from Andrea Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Magnuson at the 14:56 mark of the second frame. But St. Olaf tied the game on a goal from Kelly Biddle (FY, La Miranda, Calif.) at the 2:35 mark of the third period, setting the stage for overtime.

Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) collected 27 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Erin McNamara (SO, Farmington, Minn.) had 20 saves in goal for the Oles.

The teams complete the final series of the regular season on Saturday (2/21) at 2 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
