Augsburg comes close, but drops 5-3 decision to Hamline.

MINNEAPOLIS (2/6/09) -- Alli Miller (SO, Faribault, Minn.) had a three-goal hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night, leading Hamline University to a 5-3 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game on Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Melanie Leveille (JR, Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) had a goal and an assist, and Brianna Miller (SR, Woodbury, Minn.) also scored for Hamline (7-12-1 overall, 3-9-1 MIAC), which scored twice in the final 2:39 of the third period to clinch the victory. Miller scored the eventual game-winning goal on a power-play tally at the 17:41 mark of the final frame, and Miller notched her hat trick with an empty-net goal with one second remaining.

Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS) and Brya Erickson (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) had a goal and assist for Augsburg (3-17-0 overall, 0-13-0 MIAC), which had a potential go-ahead goal disallowed in the second period. Whitney Restemayer (JR, Bemidji, Minn.) also scored for the Auggies, and Kali Holst (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) had two assists.

The Auggies scored first, as Erickson notched a power-play goal from Magnuson and Erin Leyden (So, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) just 65 seconds into the game. Miller tied the game on an unassisted goal at the 4:49 mark for the Pipers, and Leveille gave the Pipers the lead with a goal from Jenna Scattarelli (FY, Elk River, Minn.) and Miller at the 7:13 mark.

Augsburg tied the game with Magnuson's goal, from Holst, at the 17:06 mark of the first period. The goal was Magnuson's fourth of the season, and 60th of her 93-game career. Magnuson stands eight goals away from tying Augsburg's career record for goal-scoring, 68, set by Angie Rieger (1998-2001). Magnuson now has 92 career points to stand in third place in school history in the points category; the school record of 137 was set by Lauren Chezick (2002-05).

Miller notched her second goal of the game on the power play at the 3:11 mark of the second period, assisted by Kate Raasch (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS). But Augsburg tied the game at the 17:26 mark of the second period, as Restemayer scored from Erickson and Holst on the power play.

Augsburg outshot Hamline by a 32-31 margin in the game. Amanda Plumm (SO, Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) collected 29 saves for Hamline, while Augsburg goalie Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) had 26 saves.

The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/7) at 7:15 p.m. at the Drake Ice Arena in St. Paul.
