Women's Hockey 2/7/09 -- Augsburg 2, Hamline 1
ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/7/09) -- The Toft twins -- Andrea Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Sara Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) -- provided the goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey victory of the season, a 2-1 win over host Hamline University on Saturday night at the Drake Ice Arena.
Andrea Toft scored from Sara Toft and Kali Holst (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) to tie the game at the 10:44 mark of the first period, and Sara Toft put the Auggies (4-17-0 overall, 1-13-0 MIAC) ahead with a goal from Andrea Toft at the 15:06 mark of the second period.
Hamline's (7-13-1, 3-10-1 MIAC) lone goal came from Melanie Leveille (JR, Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS), who scored from Alli Miller (SO, Faribault, Minn.) at the 7:57 mark of the first period.
Augsburg was outshot by a 30-26 mark by Hamline, with Augsburg goalie Toni Menth (JR, Buffalo, Minn.) picking up 29 saves for the win. Andria Pinkerton claimed 24 saves in goal for the Pipers.
Both teams have MIAC series next weekend, as Augsburg faces St. Mary's, while Hamline faces St. Benedict.
