Auggies fall to St. Benedict in four sets

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Despite posting a season-high 13.0 team blocks, the Augsburg College volleyball team fell to the College of St. Benedict in a tough four-set Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match (25-27,25-20,25-15,25-22) on Wednesday night at St. Benedict's Claire Lynch Hall.

Augsburg was led by offensively by Amanda Unze (FY, Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS), who recorded 10 kills on the night. Korri Yule (JR, Medford, Minn.) and Barbara Simmons (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) each had nine kills, while Simmons tied a season-high eight blocks (three solo).

Dani Tanaka (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led all players with 17 digs, while Jessica Hilk (JR, Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) chipped in 13. Shanna Reed (SR, Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) led all players with 39 assists.

St. Benedict was led by Emma Jaynes and Kayli Schumacher, who recorded 15 and 11 kills, respectively.

With the loss, the Auggies fall to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC, while the Blazers improve to 13-4 overall and 3-0 MIAC. Augsburg and St. Benedict both return to action on Friday-Saturday (10/2-3) at the MIAC-IIAC Border Battle where Augsburg travels to Northfield while St. Benedict travels to Dubuque, Iowa.
