MINNEAPOLIS -- Despite scoring twice in the final period to cut the lead, the Augsburg College men's hockey team fell 3-2 to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leader Gustavus Adolphus College in a conference game on Saturday evening at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Rory Dynan (SR, Maple Plain, Minn.) scored a goal and had an assist for Gustavus (12-4-1 overall, 10-4-1 MIAC), which completed a series sweep of the Auggies. Brad Wieck (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Roseville HS) and Joe Welch (SR, Hastings, Minn.) also scored for the Gusties.
Tyler Antony (SR, Buffalo, Minn.) scored from
Tedd Falk (SO, Mequon, Wis./Homestead HS) at the 5:10 mark of the third period, and
David Hines (SO, Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal at the 15:39 mark for Augsburg (9-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 MIAC).
Gustavus outshot Augsburg by a 28-17 margin, including a 24-9 margin through the first two periods, as the Gusties took a 3-0 lead. Augsburg outshot Gustavus by an 8-4 margin in the final period.
Justin Lochner (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had 25 saves in goal for Augsburg, while Josh Swartout (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn.) had 15 saves for Gustavus.
Both teams return to MIAC play next weekend, as Augsburg travels to face Concordia-Moorhead next Friday and Saturday (1/22-23), while Gustavus faces St. John's in a weekend series.
