Renne hits 26, Auggies win second consecutive

WINONA, Minn. -- Shannon Renne (JR, Nicollet, Minn.) hit a game-high 26 points as Augsburg rattled off its second consecutive win, a 78-64 victory over St. Mary's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at SMU's field house.

Renne, coming off an school and conference-record setting performance against Carleton on Saturday, posted 26 points for Augsburg (3-11 overall, 3-8 MIAC), which included a 6-for-10 performance from behind the arc. She also added five rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was newcomer Micha Sater (FY, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), who posted a career-high 14 points and added eight rebounds and three assists. Brittany Dyshaw (FY, Eagan, Minn.) and Tracee Schrank (FY, Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area HS) each had 12 points for the Auggies while Dyshaw posted a team-high nine rebounds.

St. Mary's (4-10 overall, 3-8 MIAC) was led by Jessica Thone (FY, Woodbury, Minn.), who finished with 24 points, four rebounds and three assists.

After a back-and-forth opening seven minutes, Augsburg used an 11-0 run to gain a 21-12 advantage, a lead the Auggies would never give up. St. Mary's made attempts to chip away at the Augsburg lead, but the Auggies held on to a 33-26 lead at the intermission.

Augsburg began the second half with a layup by Sater and Lexi Thompson (SO, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) to give the Auggies their first double-digit lead of the night. Augsburg extended its lead to as many as 17 before claiming the final 78-65 win over the Cardinals.

As a team, Augsburg claimed its best shooting performance of the season, connecting on 43.3 percent (29-of-67) from the field, while holding St. Mary's to 35.8 percent (24-of-67). The Auggies outrebounded the Cardinals 50-36 and committed a season-low 13 turnovers.

Augsburg and St. Mary's both return to action on Wednesday (1/20) as the Augies travel to Hamline and the Cardinals travel to Macalester.
